Playgrounds have a menacing atmosphere. I would probably feel safer at a Biker Bar.
Listening to a Radio Derb podcast -- don't ask me to cite the date, time, and verse -- John Derbyshire mentioned a Chuckie Cheese's restaurant being a bigger source of trouble for police than a local biker bar. I can now see why this would be so after having spent thirty minutes at a pay-as-you-go-playground in downtown Wuxi. Chuckie Cheese's is a restaurant that caters to toddlers like the playground I was at yesterday with Tony. I found that playground to have a menacing atmosphere yesterday because the children were often mean and rude to each other. I saw a boy take a toy from another boy. I saw a boy carjack Tony as he sat in a sit-in toy car. I saw a boy flip over the same small sit-in car when it had a little girl in it. Eventually, these incidents lead to conflicts among the parents.
Jenny told me of a girl slapping Tony for no particular reason. Tony, being a gentleman, I hope, did not respond in kind by hitting the little woman. But what really raised Jenny's ire was the fact that the girl's parent laughed at the incident. She swore at the woman and it escalated.
Kind as Wuxiren can be, they unfortunately have cruel, barbaric, and loutish manners.

Tony the Bad Boy
For a good stretch of time, about a week, Tony was a behaving like a good boy. But then Saturday night at the public square near our apartment, he had a flop on the ground tantrum. What happened was that another boy had a toy that Tony really liked. Tony hijacked the toy, played with it for a while, and then became very angry when he had to give it back. He flopped down on the public square surface banging his head. His mother and his father spanked and fought him.
It raised his father's ire when looking up from his struggles with Tony, he saw twenty or thirty Chinese staring at him -- Andis wanted to give them the mind-your-own-business bird. Thankfully, he fought the urge.

Tony has a tent to play in
Tony's father, on arriving home Friday Evening, was pleasantly surprised to see that Tony had gotten a tent to play in. Tony's mother said the tent had been a gift for making a large milk powder purchase.
You read will more and see more about Tony and this tent in future TKIC entries.

Tony was a good boy on Wednesday
Tony was no fuss, no muss yesterday. When the K family went to Tesco, Tony did not have a tantrum -- something that had always been happening before.
Good boy Tony!

What's Tony doing now? Tony has his residence permit.
It is about one p.m. on a Wednesday afternoon -- Tony is at preschool. He is probably taking a nap with all the other children.
Tony has got his residence permit stuck in his passport now. Having gone to Canada, he now needs to have this. His residence permit is dated the same as his father's -- it mirrors it, as the expression goes.
On the bus, Tony sings...
Tony was singing in the afternoon after preschool.
What was he singing? Twinkle, Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.
He was also chanting the Alphabet.

How Tony was on the bus.
Tony was taken to preschool after all.
It was his father who did the taking. Tony and his father went to preschool by public bus.
The bus was full but a young man yielded his seat to the father and son.
Tony was quiet on the bus, and had his head on his father's shoulders.
The preschool is on the seventh floor of a building in downtown Wuxi. As they waited in the elevator by the lobby. Some women fawned over Tony, saying he was so cute. His father understood them asking if he was taking him to class.
They were late when they arrived at the preschool, but Tony opened the classroom door and walked right in.

Tony and Andis take a bath together
In Wuxi, China, a Canadian expatriate took a bath with his 34 month old son. The son was able to lather his father's hair and body with soap. However, the son did not like it when he was lathered up by his expat father. The son then became very angry when his father then try to rinse the soap off.

Tony loves me; he loves me not.
Last night, when I arrived home from work (about 10 p.m.), Tony came to the door to greet me. He was bashful when I asked him to kiss me, but eventually he did, after which he retreated to the bedroom.
This morning, he was in bed when I asked him to say good bye before I went back to work, and he said "no!" and turned over away from me.
