Tony Protests

It wasn't easy for Dad to get Tony up on Saturday morning so he could go to school.**  Tony resisted all efforts to be woken up by curling his body and closing his eyes tighter.  Dad hoped that Mom would dress him, but when she didn't, he made an effort.  Tony fought having his pajamas taken off.  Tony fought having a shirt put on.  When Dad was able to get the shirt on, Tony flung it off.   And of course Tony cried and wailed and cried and wailed.

Mom finally got around to dressing Tony.  She placated him by saying Daddy was bad.

**Because Tuesday, May 1 is a holiday in China, students have to go to school and workers have to go to work on Saturday.

Mommy Doesn't Like Train Track!

Arriving home from work, Tony said "Train Track" to Dad.  This meant he wanted Dad to set up the TOMY Takara track, that was then in a storage box, on the floor in the living room.

Mom doesn't like it when the train track is set up.  She says it attracts dust and makes extra cleaning work for her.  Of course, she has to let Dad and Tony set it up sometimes.

Tony had asked Dad to set up the track at an inconvenient time -- Dad just arrived home and had some other things to do, but he was going to do it.

When Dad was ready to set up the train track for Tony, he walked into the living room and sat on the sofa.  "Okay Tony!  Let's set up the train track!" he said.  However, as he said this, Tony saw that he had the Ipod Touch is his hand.

Tony now wanted to play with the Ipod Touch.  He had downloaded some apps on it that let him watch videos of trains and firetrucks and diggers.

So Tony said to Dad: "Mommy doesn't like train track!" and demanded that Dad give him the Ipod Touch.

I'm Daddy! Not Honey!

Tony has taken to call his Dad "Honey" because that is what his Mom does.

He does this despite repeated admonitions from his Dad to not to.

Tony doesn't go to school today

Why?

He and his mom went to Changzhou two days ago.  Changzhou is a fifteen minutes train ride from Wuxi.  They were supposed to return yesterday but Tony was having such a good time playing with his cousin that he didn't want to leave.

So, they stayed another evening.  They will get home sometime this afternoon.

No school for Tony!

Tony reads a catalogue

It is morning and he is about to go to school.

Tony gives alms

The Kaulins family was minding its own business, standing at a bus stop, waiting for a bus, of course.

Andis thought he had espied a blind man playing a musical instrument.  Only problem was the blind man was close, hard to not see and not at all hidden.  But the sight definitely
got Andis to thinking as he saw that in front of the blind man was a bowl containing coins.

Andis gave Tony a one yuan coin and told Tony to put the coin in the blind man's bowl.  Tony did as his father bid him.  However he didn't seem to appreciate the significance of what he had done.

It was the first time Tony had given alms, if that in fact was what giving alms meant.

Tony brings the Takara TOMYcatalogue to school again.

Friday morning, Tony took the Takara TOMY Catalogue, a booklet full of photos of toy cars and trucks and trains and playsets, to school with him.

Thursday evening, he read the book before he went to sleep.

The catalogue is a little boy's version of Playboy.

Not an easy thing to do in China.

He's watching bus and fire truck computer simulation videos.
