Tony wants to take the train to Canada. Tony goes to school on a Saturday.

  • If you have read the AKIC blogs, you may know that Tony and his parents are going to Canada from May 22 to June 11.  Tony, when told about this, told his mother that he didn't want to take the plane.  He was, in fact, very upset about taking the plane, and for a while he whined and repeatedly said he didn't want to take the plane.  Dad then made a suggestion that they take the train to Canada and Tony was all for it.
  • Tony has to go to school on Saturday because of the April 4th Tomb Sweeping Holiday in China.  In fact, he will have no school on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Who made that sound?

Tony and his father were horsing around when one of them made a sound:

"PHHHHHHHphhPHHphhPHHH!"

"Who made that noise?" asked Tony's mother who heard the noise in another room.

"Don't you know the sound that your two boys make?" asked the father.  The boys being he and Tony.

Tony's mother replied to Tony's father:  "It must have been you!  Tony's farts are much quieter!"

Tony calls a baseball a snowball

I have a couple baseballs -- cheap baseballs -- in my apartment.  Tony was playing with them.

"Tony!" I said.  "This is a baseball!"

Tony said:  "No!  It is a snowball!"

Eventually, Jenny and I were able to convince him of his error and my being correct.

Tony gets up at a decent time with little fuss

The past two mornings, Tony has been getting up at 715 a.m.  This is a wonderful thing because he has to be out of the house by 750 a.m. to get to school.

Usually, to get Tony out of the house at 750, there is a struggle with Tony and the clock.

I want to get up!

Friday morning, 720 a.m., Tony told Dad that he wanted to get up.  Dad thought this was a tremendous occurrence and rushed to the bathroom to tell Tony's mother while she was showering. Dad had expected resistance from Tony about getting up and going to school, and so became so instantly filled with optimism that he even thought Tony wanted to go to school.

The optimistic feeling continued because Tony was actually helping his father dress him unlike the previous dressings of Tony which were usually wrestling matches.  Dad was so impressed with Tony's behavior that he gave him a hug.  In fact, they together had a long hug and Dad was feeling warm all over.  Moments of parent--child affection are glorious.

But then Tony told Dad, in his soft pleading way of saying he wanted something (as opposed to his shrill whining way), that he didn't want to go to school.

Well. You can't expect to get everything you desire in one quick go of it and so the improvement was still a great thing to behold, even if hopes were dashed.  But they were only dashed ever so slightly.
